At Thinkwell Health, Dr. Merahn is responsible for leading our efforts to apply the principles and practices of experience design to specific client needs across the healthcare community. He serves as the lead executive on all healthcare engagements, overseeing and facilitating client-service operations and working with internal stakeholders to identify and clarify goals and objectives and affirm the vision and value proposition of an engagement.
He plays a critical role in the design and implementation of the client programs, with a special focus on clinical program design, operations management, and revitalizing the experience of care for patients and professionals. He has unique experience working with stakeholders to optimize acceptance, ease implementation, and enhance benefit, and the subsequent evaluation, and optimization of the program impact.

Dr. Merahn is an experienced physician-executive with a remarkably diverse career across the entire healthcare ecosystem, including policy and program development for the New York City Department of Health, and over a decade in the strategic healthcare communications industry in the Young & Rubicam, Omnicom and Interpublic family of companies, where his clients included Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and 3M. He has served in executive leadership roles in medical information services and digital health, as global Vice President of Clinical Technology Products for Elsevier, a consultant to IBM Healthcare Business Services, and General Manager of healthcare professional portal ModernMedicine.com. He led organizational transformation as the Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management for the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia and, as Senior Vice President and Senior Medical Director at Aetna’s ActiveHealth Management unit, was responsible for clinical integration programs and leading their efforts into accountable care and population health. He subsequently served as Chief Medical Officer for US Medical Management, leading their transformation as a national primary care network into a highly successful accountable care organization.

Dr. Merahn is a recognized thought leader in healthcare quality and performance management, population health management and systems-based practice. He is a vocal advocate for the value of the ‘human-factor’ in care delivery and health status improvement for both patients and communities, rooted in collaboration, systems innovation and healthcare interaction design.
